Solutions for municipalities

A wide variety of sludge, including municipal sewage sludge is treated in anaerobic digesters. In these digesters, there is a certain amount of biogas created and this consists of CH4, CO2 and H2S.This biogas is often used for creating green energy.

For reasons related to health, safety and corrosion, removal of H2S is often desired. HydroThane can offer a range of biogas desulphurization processes and can advise customers in this way – the best and most economic method for H2S removal.

Reliability, efficiency, availability and operational/capital investment are some of the criteria which are taken into account for every case. The clean biogas can be used to produce electricity or to replace natural gas in a boiler.

Sludge rejection water from municipal waste water treatment plants can be treated with the HydroThane STP® HYDRAMMOX process.

The HYDRAMMOX process is a single stage system in which nitridation (NO2 formation) and the anammox reaction occurs simultaneously.

This so-called removal of ammonium over nitrite (NO2-) has several advantages compared to conventional biological nitrogen removal using nitrification and denitrification.
