The HydroThane STP® SWD (Solid Waste Digestion) process is based on the CSTR (Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor) technology. The SWD process is mostly used for waste reduction and green energy production and is a robust, proven process which treats industrial effluents with significantly high amounts of suspended solids.
The HydroThane STP® SWD concept consists of a completely mixed reactor which can be provided with sludge separation equipment (sludge recycle) or without this sludge (recycle).
Inside this HydroThane STP® SWD reactor the active anaerobic biomass is kept in suspension by mechanical mixing (top entry or side entry mixer(s)) and the majority of the soluble and solid COD is converted into biogas. The produced biogas is temporarily collected in the headspace of the HydroThane STP® SWD reactor.
The SWD process is typically used for waste (water) streams with:
– High concentration of solids
– High FOG concentrations (Fat – Oil – Grease)
– Extreme high Ca2+ concentrations
– High ammonia content.
The loading rates for this kind of SWD reactors are typically in the range of 1 – 7 kg COD/m3.day.
