HydroThane BSP
HydroThane STP® BSP stands for Biological deSulphurization Process and is a simple biological process that removes hydrogen sulphide H2S from the biogas without the use of chemicals.

The biogas is fed into vertical column(s) with a packing media in counter current flow, the BSP process can be seen as a combination of a conventional chemical scrubber and a biological trickling filter.

A controlled amount of air is mixed with the biogas to provide sufficient oxygen for the Sulfur oxidizing bacteria. The Suplhur oxidizing micro-organisms, such as Thiotrix, Thiobacillus and Beggiatoa species, in the biofilm metabolize H2S (Hydrogen Sulphide) into S0 (elemental Sulphur) and H2SO4 (Sulphuric Acid), thus purifying the biogas.

The residual products can be directly discharged to the aerobic waste water treatment process, where elemental Sulphur will be removed with the aerobic surplus sludge and the soluble Sulphate fraction is discharged with the final effluent. Or it can be directly discharged into the final effluent stream.

The HydroThane STP® BSP is designed in a closed reactor system and reduces the odor, toxicity, and corrosiveness of the biogas.

The characteristics of the BSP process are:
- Extreme low operational costs (no caustic use)
- Hardly no nutrient requirement (selective biological process)
- Low energy requirement
- Simple & safe to operate (no hazardous chemicals, minimal amount of equipment)
- Low maintenance (no scaling due to operation at low pH values).
